Learn how to handle a dental emergency from your San Ramon dentist.Dental emergencies can be stressful and frightening, especially when there is blood and pain involved! We understand this, and we’re here to help. Dr. Rashpal Deol and his team at Oak Ridge Dental are here for you, and we’ll help get you feeling comfortable and back on the path to wellness in no time. When you know how to handle an emergency, it eliminates some of the stress of the situation. So here are some tips from your San Ramon dentist on how to handle common dental emergencies.

A Tooth Knocked Out

If your tooth gets knocked out, it’s important to contact us right away. Time is of the essence here because we have the best chance of saving your tooth within 1-2 hours of your injury or accident.

Transport your tooth to our office carefully. Try to handle it as little as possible. If it can be replaced in its socket, this is the best way to transport it. If not, use a cup or baggie filled with milk to keep its cells moist and alive.

A Broken or Chipped Tooth

If your tooth fractures and breaks, please gather as many pieces as you can and call us right away. Dr. Deol, your dentist in San Ramon, will assess your tooth and determine the best option for repair when you arrive. If you have a small chip, you may not need immediate attention, but we should smooth your tooth soon so it doesn’t cause irritation to your soft tissues or tongue.

Dental Pain or Sensitivity

If you’re suffering from dental pain that is constant, this could indicate an infected tooth. It’s important to note that a dental infection won’t go away without treatment, so call us right away to be seen. In fact, an infection that’s left untreated can lead to tooth loss. When you’re proactive about getting treatment, root canal therapy may be able to preserve your tooth.

Soft Tissue Injuries

When your gums, cheeks, lips, or tongue sustain injuries there can be a lot of blood. It’s important to first stop that bleeding with a cold compress and light pressure so you can properly assess the situation. After the bleeding has stopped, give our office a call for further instruction and to determine if you should be seen.

Contact Oak Ridge Dental Care

If you or a loved one is experiencing a dental emergency, don’t hesitate to contact your emergency dentist in San Ramon right away. If necessary, we’ll make every effort to see you as soon as possible and often the same day in most cases.
