Why Choose Oak Ridge Dental for Laser Dentistry?

What Does the Fotona LightWalker® Laser Do?

The Fotona LightWalker® laser can be used as an alternative to traditional dental instruments for a variety of procedures. The device emits an extremely concentrated beam of light energy that interacts with the oral tissues. Fotona LightWalker® comes with a variety of wavelengths, which means that it can be used for many different kinds of treatments.

For example, if you are suffering from gum disease, we can use the laser as a way to treat the infection. The laser can target the bacteria that are hiding in the pockets between your teeth and gums, eliminating them so that they can’t cause any further damage. Getting rid of the harmful bacteria in your mouth can go a long way toward giving your gums a chance to heal.

When undergoing a procedure where the Fotona LightWalker® laser will be used, the exact steps involved depend on the treatment being performed, be it gum disease treatment or a type of oral surgery. If you’re not sure what to expect, feel free to ask one of our team members.

Since dental lasers typically cause less discomfort than traditional dental instruments, we may not need to numb your gums before your treatment begins. Once the procedure is complete, we will give you an estimate of how long recovery will take. In the case of gum disease treatment, healing might take a few weeks or a matter of months; it depends on the severity of your condition and how extensive the procedure was.
