Why Choose Oak Ridge Dental for Children’s Dentistry?

Your Child’s First Visit

Dr. Deol is experienced in caring for children of all ages. If you have a little one at home in need of their first dental checkup, our dental office is ready to help. During the first visit, we typically won’t perform a lot of dental services. We place a focus and importance on your child getting used to sitting in our dental chair and letting us touch their mouth. We will carefully check their gums and any teeth that have grown in before recommending the next appointment. At Oakridge Dental, we understand that good dental experiences early on will make children more likely to care for their smiles in the future. That’s why we do all we can to ensure that your kids are relaxed, happy, and comfortable during their dental appointments.

How Parents Can Help Their Children at Home

As a parent, it’s your important job to help your kids care for their smile until they’re able to do it themselves. A healthy set of teeth all starts with a good brushing routine. Help your kids brush if they can’t themselves and be sure that they are brushing their teeth for 2 minutes each session—you can play their favorite song during this time to make it go by faster. It’s also important that your kids floss once a day to remove pesky food debris from in between teeth. This daily dental hygiene combined with regular visits to our dental office will ensure that your kids stay healthy and happy.

Dental Sealants

If your child is susceptible to getting cavities, we may suggest dental sealants. This is a fast, pain-free process that can protect their molars from accumulating food debris and plaque, preventing dental decay. All we do is paint the substance over the biting surface of the molars that are vulnerable to getting cavities and cure the material with a special light. This will harden the sealants, allowing them to act like small umbrellas that protect from debris build-up.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that is important to the formation of your child’s teeth. Their body utilizes it to help strengthen the outermost layer of their teeth, called the enamel. This protects the more vulnerable structures beneath, preventing cavities and infections from developing. If they don’t receive enough fluoride and are at a higher risk of oral health problems due to weakened enamel, we may suggest fluoride treatments.

Athletic Mouthguards/Sportsguards

Does your little one participate in a local sports team or have a hobby that could put their teeth at risk? You can preserve their precious smile by getting them a custom-fitted athletic mouthguard. These are perfectly fitted to be comfortable for their small oral cavity, making it easier to breathe with while they have it in their mouth than a one-size-fits-all store-bought mouthguard. Our customized mouthguards have been shown to drastically reduce the risk of dental trauma as well as broken and fractured jaws.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

If your child has a cavity, we can do more than simply keep it from getting worse. We offer FDA-approved silver diamine fluoride, which is a fast, easy, and pain-free way to stop cavities in their tracks as well as protect their teeth from the future threat of decay. The process is completely non-invasive—all we do is brush a liquid over their tooth that has a cavity.

Non-Nutritive Habits

Our team is more than happy to assist parents by providing tips and tricks to help their child break bad oral habits at a young age, like thumb-sucking. Although this is a completely normal coping skill for infants and toddlers, as soon as they reach a certain age, it could cause serious problems for their dental development. The constant force and pressure of this action can create severe orthodontic issues that lead to speech problems as well. If your child is four or older and still uses this coping mechanism, we’re here to help make sure that it doesn’t impact their oral health!
