It will take time for your mouth to get used to the presence of the prosthesis, and eating and speaking may feel a little awkward initially. To help you prepare for the change, here\u2019s a closer look at what you can expect during the first month after getting dentures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

During the First 24 Hours<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you received your dentures immediately after a tooth extraction, then you will need to leave them in your mouth for the first 24 hours. This will help keep bleeding and swelling under control. There will likely be some soreness after your extraction, so plan on only eating soft foods like mashed potatoes or applesauce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the First Two Weeks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After the initial 24 hours, you should start taking your dentures out of your mouth every night when you go to bed. Doing so will give your gums a chance to recover from the pressure they were exposed to during the day.
